Troubleshooting

Health Dashboard

The Health section in the LinkFlow panel is your first stop for troubleshooting. It provides a project health score and automatically detects common issues:

  • Missing paths — Linked files that cannot be found on disk.
  • Broken overrides — Overrides referencing data-blocks that no longer exist.
  • Unused libraries — Libraries that are linked but have no active references in the scene.
  • Duplicates — Multiple links pointing to the same file.

Run a health check before rendering to catch issues early. The health score is calculated from the ratio of healthy to problematic links.

Link Broken After File Move

Symptoms: After moving or renaming a source file, linked assets show as "Data Missing" in the outliner.

  • Use Locate Missing in the Health section to scan directories for relocated files.
  • Open the Batch Relink dialog to update all broken paths at once.
  • To prevent this in the future, use relative paths: enable Use Relative Paths in LinkFlow preferences.

Live Mode Not Updating

Symptoms: You save changes to a source file but linked assets do not update.

  • Verify Live Mode is enabled in the LinkFlow panel.
  • Check that the source file was linked through LinkFlow (not Blender's native Link/Append).
  • Network and cloud-synced drives may need polling mode. Set a 2–5 second interval in preferences.
  • Restart Blender if file watchers stop responding after system suspend/resume.

Override Not Saving

Symptoms: You create a local override, but after saving and reopening, the override is gone.

  • Ensure you saved the file with Ctrl+S after creating the override.
  • Check that the override appears in the LinkFlow Overrides section. If it doesn't, the data-block may need to be re-overridden.
  • LinkFlow operations support undo (Ctrl+Z) — accidentally undoing an override creation will remove it.

Performance with Many Links

Symptoms: Blender becomes sluggish with 100+ linked files.

  • Disable auto-reload and switch to manual refresh.
  • Increase polling interval if using network drives.
  • Use library groups to organize and only monitor the active group.
Benchmark: On a typical workstation (16 GB RAM, SSD), LinkFlow handles up to 200 linked files without noticeable impact.

Reports & CSV Export

The Reports section lets you export comprehensive diagnostics for offline analysis:

  • Health Report — Overview of all link health statuses.
  • Library Report — Per-library details and statistics.
  • Missing Report — All unresolved file paths.
  • Override Report — All active overrides with property details.
  • Dependency Report — Full dependency tree.
  • Scene Summary — Complete snapshot of the current scene's link state.

All reports can be exported as CSV for sharing with the team or archiving.
